I worked there and it was a blessing. Workers were given free food, water and shelter.
The concert took place at an airbase - not much shade on a tarmac. Both Woodstock ‘69 & and ‘94 had cloud coverage and rain, while ‘99 had 3 days of blazing sunshine. Festival goers were dehydrated and had sun stroke. Moreover, they were being gauged by food/water prices. Why buy a bottle of water when you can buy a beer?
Sunday morning saw trailers all over the tarmac. Naturally, people climbed under them for shade and on top for better views. Nevertheless, the high prices, the high temperature and the high intake of drugs and alcohol made them out of control. By dusk, they started breaking into the trailers and started looting. Closed up tents were being broken into, too. The fires began, but many people had already left. Though there is no excuse for rioting and sexual assaults, the festival needed to be planned better.
Caught the end of their set from the behind the stage. Met Adam as he walked off. Asked him, “How was it dating both girls from Friends?” He looked at me like I was an idiot and replied, “good”.

I had just shook hands with Dave and co as they walked up the runway onto the stage. Then this happened…
